The Upside Of Some French Strikes

The French as a people have this thing about protest strikes. Strikes (called "Greves") are a daily occurrence, and no one is allowed to touch their right to go on strike. It's a bit like in the USA, the Constitution allows its citizens to bear arms, and no one is allowed to touch that right.

Often strikes in France are a pain. The French railroads are more often on strike than running, and strikes often end in protest marches, blocking all traffic. One or two strikes do however have a positive result on our daily lives {link}.

Stickered Radar
Here's an example of one strike that is positive (for us motorcycle riders). It evolves around the German tire manufacturer Continental Open link in a new window. They are planning to partially close down a site in France, and the employees have been on strike for a while.

During the protest march to the Ministry of Economy & Finance, the employees peppered one of the most money-generating speed radar with Continental stickers, making the radar unusable.

For 12 days, the highly productive radar was not used, costing the French state €120,000.

At least there was a positive sign to being held up in traffic while the protest march was being held. Don't you love these strikes....
