God, I love gadgets, and I love the internet. But this is one product that goes too far in both fields. Dutch GPS manufacturer TomTom , plans to launch a new service built into their GPS models called TomTom Search & Go LIVE. What the TomTom LIVE service does is it connects your GPS to the internet. Useful to get traffic information, and possibly map updates (though that will not happen since they rely on you purchasing map updates), but what TomTom plan to do is allow you to access certain web sites using your GPS. You'll get access to Twitter, Expedia and a few other preselected sites. Can you imagine what this means (not to us motorcycle riders, since we'll not be able to use it on the go) for car drivers. Now, cagers will not only be distracted sending text messages and talking on their mobile phone, but they can now press buttons on their GPS to access Twitter, or find that bar that is still open. More distractions, more deadly accidents. Come on TomTom, don't deadly accidents mean anything to you. You'll lose customers this way, since they'll end up 6 feet under. At least stop internet access when you notice the vehicle is moving! That should be an easy safety feature. Click here to read about TomTom's new dangerous service .
