It looks like India is going from millions of small displacement and cheaply built motorcycles, to the land of big super bikes. After Ducati, Harley-Davidson and BMW (plus the already present big four Japanese companies), it's now the turn of UK motorcycle manufacturer Triumph . Triumph are currently looking at the Indian market to increase the sales of their motorcycles. India is an enormous potential market, with more and more rich bikers with enough disposable income to buy a big motorcycle. India is the second biggest motorcycle market in the world, and the sports motorcycle market has an incredible high growth rate. According to Peter Huckin, export sales coordinator at Triumph "India which is second largest two wheeler market in the world has seen sales of more than 1.3 millions two wheeler in the October month. In India the sports bike market is growing at 40% rate which is considerable enough to attract global sports bike manufacture Triumph." The problem in selling any luxury goods in India, is that if it is not manufactured in India, you pay 110% import duty (in sharp contrast with Europe and USA, where Indian manufactured goods are imported at normal import duties), making luxury sports bikes a real luxury. This will more than double the street price of any Triumph motorcycle. That's the reason Harley-Davidson has decided to start assembling motorcycles in India. So I guess somewhere next year, you'll start seeing Triumph motorcycles riding the streets of India.
