Tunisia have gone through hell and back with their "revolution". A dictator was disposed, and the current government is not exactly popular, so there's still a lot of unrest in the tourist-depraved country. But one thing the motorcycle groups have decided to do is set up a proper motorcycle lobbying association. Modelled after the French Federation of Angry Bikers (FFMC ), the Tunisian one is called FTMC (Federation Tunisienne des Motards en Colere). The idea came to them when they visited the French FFMC and were given a book about the FFMC and how it works. That inspired them to create their own organization, and start fighting for the rights of Tunisian motorcycle riders. It's not going to be an easy task, since there is a lot to be done in a country that has been deprived from rights organizations. They'll not know how to deal with groups of people demanding to be dealt with correctly, standing up for their own rights. And there's a lot to be done: 1. Stop the vehicle taxes worth €300/year while the minimum salary is €100/month in Tunisia 2. Reduce insurance which are astronomical. Many bikers can not insure their motorcycles, so they are riding without one. 3. Better the road infrastructure, making it safer for motorcycles 4. Educate other road users to the plight of bikers 5. Re-think the motorcycle license, many civil servants who "give out" the motorcycle license don't even have one themselves. 6. Prevent bus and trucks from leaking diesel onto the roads, often creating deadly traps for motorcycle riders. As you can see, they've got their work cut out. This is only the beginning... over the next few years, that list will become enormous. However, the French organization is there to help their newbie colleagues getting started. Biker love. The organization is so new, I've not been able to find a web site (yet).
