Money strapped governments will use any ploy to relieve you of your hard earned cash, and the UK is no exception. They'll invent any way possible to get part your money from you, and your motorcycle (or car) is a prime target. I think governments think that if you own a motorcycle/car/vehicle, it means you have money, and therefore you'll pay more to use it. In other words, you are the proverbial cash-cow And that's exactly what they are studying. The UK government are looking at making you pay a "pay-as-you-go" tax for using your motorcycle. This will be on top of all other taxes, not a replacement! They have asked companies to research technology that will permit them to tax anyone who uses a vehicle, AT ANY TIME OF THE DAY! The UK politicians are looking at taxing you when you ride, even if it's at 3 o'clock in the morning and there's no one else but chickens on the road. The idiot-savants of the government want to even go one step further. They want to apply a "minimum charge" when riding. Also called a "short distance supplement", if you need to go out and bring your sick mother to the hospital which is 2 kilometers further up in your car, the cash register will make the kajing sound, bells ringing! The government want to rake it in. They need the money, and you can "eat cake". According to a spokesperson, this is done to fight obesity and make people more "green". Well, I think they're going to achieve the latter; people are going to be "green", but it's green of anger! It's unbelievable what politicians try to do nowadays. It's not like people are living in dictatorships, they have a choice. With 2 years to go for the next elections, Gordon Brown is making sure he and his party will not win the elections. I think the French had the right idea 200 years ago... bring back the guillotine!
