A sigh of relieve was heard this week in the UK, where some folks wanted to limit motorcycle power to 100 hp like they have done in France {link}. In France, some politicians think that by reducing the power a motorcycle has to 100 hp, it would result in less fatalities. Anyone with half a brain knows that this is not what causes a motorcycle to crash. Training, attitude and experience are the main factors that reduce accidents on motorcycles, not horsepower. A 100 hp motorcycle can go fast enough to cause serious damage, so why limit the power? The Prime Minister of the UK, Gordon Brown, has placed on his website a statement, that the UK government will not be looking at reducing power for motorcycles. That's a good thing for the UK, but why will France not have a look at this stupid rule? Most modern motorcycle nowadays have more than 100hp, so extra costs are generated by the manufacturers to reduce the power for French destined motorcycles. And if you get caught removing the power reduction kit, you get your head chopped off....
