The police are continuously looking for new and novel ways of limiting the fun we can have as motorcycle riders. They used to just eyeball us, then came the radars, then the portable handheld radars, mobile alcohol Breathalyzers, drones, etc.

Now they have come up with an even more deadly weapon, the RF Safe-Stop. The RF Safe-Stop can best be compared with a nuclear bomb. When a nuclear bomb goes off, it stops all electronics with its electro-magnetic pulse (EMP). The RF Safe-Stop does the same by sending a radar-like signal to the electronics on our motorcycle.

RF Safe Stop

The electronics get confused by the signal, and shut down the engine, forcing you to stop. Obviously, your iPhone, GPS and radar detector will also give up, so you'll be on your own on a motorcycle, just you and an immobilized bike.

RF Safe Stop

But so far it's going to be a while before it's a real reality. First of all, the device is not exactly portable. Just look at the video found in the Via: link below, or the photo above.

Secondly, here's my own question.... what happens if you are wearing a pacemaker???

Motorcycles who are from recent years will have no problems since they don't have the extensive electronics. So I guess we'll be seeing robbers on vintage motorcycles with no computers on board...
