MCIA Open link in a new window in the UK have commissioned an economic survey of the potential of the motorcycle industry in the UK. According to the survey, the motorcycle industry impacts the English economy with an annual sales of £5.2 BILLION (about US$ 8 Billion).

According to the survey, 22 out of 1000 people have a motorcycle (the lowest in Europe), but this number is increasing. Statistics for March 2010 show an increase in small displacement motorcycle, meaning more and more people are turning to motorcycle for ease of transport and for ecological reasons.

Steve Kenward. MCI’s CEO commented, "The research has proven that the motorcycle industry has a very important role to play in the economy of the UK. There is significant potential for growth in the market and as the Get On campaign makes positive steps forward we are reaching out to new markets. Over 8,000 people have already applied to participate in the free motorcycle experience that introduces people to riding. We know there is great potential to bring new riders on board and expand our existing customer database to a younger and more diverse group of people. The MCI remains extremely positive and upbeat about the future of the motorcycle industry."

These are figures that politicians in Europe should not ignore. The money involved around the motorcycle industry is bigger than what most people think, and for politicians, CASH IS KING.
