October 2008 sees a law changes in the UK  for new motorcycle riders. It's going to become more difficult to learn how to ride your motorcycle, it's going to take longer, and therefore, it's going to become more expensive. There are going to be less test centers (from 200 down to 60).

So the MCIA Open link in a new window (the Motorcycle Industry Association) is urging potential motorcycle riders to start their license now, because after October, it's going to be more difficult.

The UK will by then be aligned with the tough riding standards of Europe (I know the French one is tough..{link}.). In the UK, some 80,000 new riders test for their permit, with 50,000 passing the test. That figure could drop with the new law.

Test circuit

1.   On and off the stand
2.   Wheel the machine
3.   Slalom
4.   Figure of eight
5.   30 kph circuit ride
6.   50 kph avoidance
7.   Controlled stop
8.   U-turn
9.   Slow ride
10. 30 kph circuit ride
11. 50 kph emergency brake

In order to promote people taking their tests now, MCIA have created a special website to inform new riders. Called TakeYoursNow Open link in a new window, they explain the new test, and what you'll be needing to do.
