While many European cities have been running motorcycle taxi services, or at least starting them up, the two biggest grid locked cities in the world, Los Angeles and New York have had to do without one. Until next month. May 2011 sees the arrival of a motorcycle taxi service in Los Angeles and New York. Started by a private airplane company/operator, the taxi service is called Moto Limos Club. The comprehensive taxi service offers rides on either the workhorse of motorcycle taxis, the Honda Gold Wing (with or without trailer), or on a Bombardier Can-Am Spyder (with also a trailer option). Moto Limos Club . is starting their service big. 15 Honda 2012 Gold Wing bikes will be used. Their riders all have at least 15 years of real professional motorcycle riding experience (as in motorcycle cops, etc). It's a club, so you'll be expected to pay a membership fee. Depending on the type of membership and plan, it'll cost you US$125 or 250. Depending on your membership and plan, it'll cost you a maximum of US$90 per hour to use the Gold Wing. Passengers are equipped with a Bluetooth enabled helmet allowing them to communicate with their rider. You can also use the Bluetooth to talk on your mobile phone, so you can continue doing business. Full weather protected gear is also on hand, in a big enough size that it can be put over your business clothes. In New York, for those colder months, there's even a warm blanket.
| UPDATE 15APR: I have been contacted by the CEO of Moto Limos. They are not going to start up in New York (but will shortly start in San Francisco, San Diego and Las Vegas) nor are they going to be using the Spyder. | Obviously if you live in one of these two cities, you may not be interested, but if you are visiting, specially for business, it makes a lot of sense. Why waste your time in traffic jams? Los Angeles has the added advantage of being legally able to lane split, you can save a lot of time. Click here to access Moto Limos Club web site .
