A proposed bill in Colorado will see the discrimination towards motorcycle riders eliminated. Many bikers, all over the world, see themselves forbidden access to restaurants, hotels and stores just because they are dressed like bikers (which they are). I myself have had several occasions that a hotel refused to accommodate me because I arrived on a motorcycle. The image bikers still have, a remnant of the Hollywood movies, is that we are troublemakers. The proposed bill would add "unconventional attire" to the state law that is applied to discrimination in public areas. That would make it illegal to ban motorcycle riders the same way it's illegal to ban access to race, gender and religion. The bill will not relate to any unusual clothing - it's just for biker clothing, meaning if a restaurant requires you to wear a coat and tie, they will not be affected. As usual in politics, opposing sides have opposing views. The bill is proposed by Democrat Ray Hoskinson, while the Republicans are against it. The Republican congressman Joe Miklosi said “That’s the goofiest bill I ever heard of in my life, if I have a business or something and I don’t think it’s appropriate to have guys in leather jackets or something, now I have to serve them? I don’t think so.” There is little hope that the bill will pass, since the Republicans control the House. Personally, I think it's a good idea. Being banned just because you're wearing leathers is a bad thing.
