Most long established and self-respecting motorcycle or scooter manufacturers have an annual event meant to draw the many fans they have to a location somewhere on Earth. Harley, of course, have Sturgis, and other motorcycle manufacturers, like Ducati, BMW and KTM have similar (but smaller) events.

Vespa Trophy 2010
Italian scooter manufacturer Vespa Open link in a new window is an old and well established brand, so it goes without saying that they also have an annual meeting, called the Vespa World Days Open link in a new window. But what I find interesting is that they have coupled it to the Vespa Trophy Open link in a new window, a pretty novel idea for Vespa clubs.

The idea is that each club that participates, needs to ride their scooters to as many Vespa/Piaggio dealers it can, collect a stamp, and the club that has the most stamps, wins.

It's a great idea, since it means 1) riding (a lot), and 2) the dealers get a chance of meeting other-than-normal-customers, since they come from all over the place, and this means they could possibly sell some more gear...

The Vespa Trophy web site has an interactive map with all the dealers, so clubs need to plan the best possible route to gather as many dealers stamps as they can. The dealers make a record themselves of the number of Vespas in the club, and even takes a digital photo of the gang.

Afterwards, using a formula, the winner will be declared.

The Vespa World Days 2010 is held this year at Fatima, Portugal Click for map, from June July the 1st until the 4th. It's a 4 day event, with rides, food and music.

Looks like a great time, considering that the area in Portugal is not only very pretty, but also nice and warm.
