Here are two videos of the famous Le Touquet Enduopale beach race, both long, and in French. Le Touquet Enduropale 2008 (16 minutes 32 seconds) This is the first 16 minutes of the race, and the most interesting. The first few minutes is getting 1000 riders in a grid ready to start, followed by the start (not all motorcycle are in yet). After the start comes the holeshot... 7.5 kilometers. Here you see the difficulty in trying to win the holeshot. The winner on the Honda CBR 900 Fireblade is flat out, at speeds over 200 kph, but just watch how the bike is moving sideways at that speed. Impressive. 2nd is last year's holeshot winner on a BMW HP2. Then comes the rest of the "normal" motorcycles, run by the pros, followed by 1000 motorcycle in a massive traffic jam at the first hill. Note: The French commentary is by Cyril Despres, himself a 2 time winner of the holeshot. The Le Touquet Crash (1 minute 11 seconds) I normally don't show crashes, but several people emailed me asking what happened. Here's what happened. He didn't see the bump, and went on it at full speed. 20 year old Benjamin Schots is still in a coma, with a fractured vertebrae. He was considered at outsider favorite to win. At the time of writing this, he was still in a coma.
