Before you say where the heck is Therouldeville , I'll let you in on a secret... I didn't know, despite the fact that it's 5 kilometers from my house here in Normandy. A motorcycle club organizes an annual vintage motorcycle race. So I forwent the MotoGP race of Misano (OK, I watched until Stoner hit the deck) and loaded my trusty BMW and went to have a look-see. The start/finish of the event is at Valmont (for the movie diehard, remember John Malkovich's role in "Dangerous Liaisons"... he played the Count of Valmont). From there, the many participants had to ride a circuit of about 3 kilometers for 4 hours. The event can be summed up with this one photo: A vintage motorcycle race in the Normandy countryside, amongst the cows... So here are a few photos of the event. Mind you, I'm not very knowledgeable about vintage motorcycle, so some of them I could not recognize. Some are so old, that even Senator McCain couldn't recognize them. But one thing is certain, they were all in running order... At the main square, the motorcycle were all lined up waiting for their moment of glory. The 1st bike is a Lyon 125 cc from 1953, the 2nd is a 125 cc Christophe. This Norton seems to be running more on oil than gasoline.. A Terrot (??) with behind it a Douglas. A Motocomfort in very good condition. This looks like a war time BMW with sidecar. I have no idea what these two motorcycles are, but they look very old, and they were in running order.... not bad! A delivery motorcycle from an unknown brand. Probably to bring the freshly baked croissants... In the pre-program, they had a race with small displacement motorcycles, moped and scooters. BSA motorcycle with sidecar. Nice.. The local hooligan motorcycle gang? Nope... the main contestants getting ready to take position... A Rater (?) motorcycle going to the start line. One I recognize, a Laverda motorcycle. Yes, this is a real motorcycle race, so there were UMBRELLA GIRLS! Maybe not the quality of the MotoGP, but they were umbrella girls! And for the only female rider, there was even an UMBRELLA BOY (man).... Did you fart??? Hehe... Nice vintage Triumph, with the rider dressed in the style.. Being a real race, they even had a security pace car... all comforts of a real race... And off they go for many rounds in the country side.... Here's the Triumph mingling with the cows... This rider seems familiar... doesn't he look like one of the famous characters in one of the biker comic strips. I can't put my finger on it though... someone put me out of my misery... And there ends a passionate race in the Normandy country. Who won? everyone....
