Times are tough as we all know. Buying a new motorcycle is not in the cards for many of us. The cost is just too high. But it doesn't need to be so. The biggest cost of producing a motorcycle, even in Asia, is labor cost. Most of the motorcycle is assembled by hand, by skilled laborers. So what if you remove that portion of a motorcycle cost. In comes IKEA, the famous Swedish furniture company. Their philosophy is to give the customer a high quality product that the customer has to assemble. They can therefore supply quality products for a low price. So why not come with a DIY motorcycle. IKEA would supply all the parts, numbered and sorted, assembly instructions and even give you as part of the package, the Alan key, big hammer, screwdriver and a bottle of 500 aspirins. That way, a motorcycle that would have cost US$10,000 will now cost you only 3,000. Isn't that an idea in these financial stimulating times? Of course if you're anything like me, you'd spend three years trying to get the bike together, and end up with 10% of the parts not on the motorcycle. So, what do you say? A good idea?
