The way motorcycle riders see cars, is as cages, so WTF anyone would file for a patent for a motorcycle cage is beyond me... The patent was filed in the USA last March, and the idea consists of placing a tubular steel cage around the motorcycle, like this: The idea is that the cage will protect the rider in accidents... just like a car. To ensure that the bikers stays inside the cage, the inventor proposes this: That's right, you're attached to the cage by a belt. And not only does the harness hold you in place, but also at the seat level.... ... you're attached to the seat (is it me, or does it look like this guy is riding naked?). So if your motorcycle is out of control, and goes diving into the ravine, you'll be safe. Aren't you glad to know that? Of course if your motorcycle catches fire, you'll need a while to get out of the cage, and climbing in to the cage and attaching yourself will take a while as well. So now you've got a vehicle that has all the discomforts of a motorcycle (like rain and cold weather), the disadvantages of a car (no lane splitting with that contraption), but at least you're safe! Oh well, back to the drawing board. Click here to read the whole motorcycle cage patent and all its drawings
