Back From Florida - Motorcycle Europe vs USA

Well, I'm back... sort of! Don't ever fly Air Chance (sorry Air France) if you're tall and fly cattle class. No legroom and on the way back we had emergency exit seats (great for legroom), but the seats were so narrow that even my wife had problems squeezing in....

Now, some of my observations on the motorcycle culture - Europe vs The USA:

I spent most my time around Orlando and down to Ft. Myers. During the week, I probably saw about 6 motorcycles, in the weekend I saw probably 50 (most of them in groups, and almost all Harleys). The weather was sunny, sometimes cold, sometimes warm (50-70°).

On my taxi ride back from the Paris airport, I saw probably 500 motorcycles in the 30 minute ride! And the weather was freezing and wet !!!

What gives ?? Someone explain why there were so few motorcycles, despite the fact that the weather was perfect for riding, and plenty of roads ??
As can be expected, I bought two American motorcycle magazines (general ones, not type specific). I was flabbergasted that both had on their first page (even before the index) an ad for a pickup truck (different brand for each). In all I counted some 5 car ads - - - IN A MOTORCYCLE MAGAZINE !!

So now my question, why does the American motorcycle culture differ so much from the European one. European bikers ride all year round (unless you're in a country with a lot of snow), and I don't think any motorcycle magazine would show car ads. But a biker is a biker, no matter where they are. So why ???   (and while you're at it, what is the meaning of life?). Know the answer ?? Let me know. I'd love to hear. Post a comment here...
