Holy cow (no pun)! 100,000 traffic deaths per year, cars and motorcycles... in India. That's incredible, despite the fact that they are the densest populated country, the ratio is still astronomical. Just take a few moments and think about that number... think of all the coffins?? The blood shed?? All the twisted metal! Out of every 10,000 cars and motorcycle, 14 end up in a deadly accident (compared to 2 out of 10,000 in the Western world).

And if there are 100K deaths, how many injuries are there? They must be in the millions! Eeek Smiley. Thanks to the high increase of vehicle sales, the authorities expect the numbers to increase to 150,000 road deaths! For more information click here Open link in a new window.

The twisted metal of smashed up cars lining highways is a grim testament to India's road toll, one of the worst in the world with around 100,000 people killed in traffic accidents last year alone. Traffic accidents in India are set to rise as rising incomes and a booming economy mean more cars and trucks on the roads. (Punit Paranjpe/Reuters)
