According to the market research and consulting company Piker Research Open link in a new window, by the year 2017 there should be some 138 million electric motorcycles and scooters riding around our globe. With high fuel prices and interesting government incentives, many people will be looking at purchasing an electric PTWPowered Two Wheel - motorcyles, scooters, mopeds. The more people who buy one, the cheaper they get.

Asia at this moment has the lion share of electric bikes, but that is going to change. With the government incentives in North America and Europe, and the rising fuel price, many people will leave their car at home and use electronic scooters to get to work. Electric scooters are seen to outsell electric motorcycle six to one. This year, there are an estimated 17 million electric motorcycles and scooters out there, but over the next few years, the number will increase dramatically.

"Electric motorcycles and scooters have strong appeal for many consumers," says senior analyst Dave Hurst. "They are relatively low cost to own, do not take a lot of space, and are easy to maintain, therefore making them attractive for city dwellers. Governments also like these vehicles because they can utilize existing transportation and electricity infrastructure without the congestion problems and emissions impacts of conventional automobiles."
