South African Leatt are very well known for their neck brace, particularly in the Dakar rally. After the many unfortunate deaths in the motorcycle race, the organizers decided to turn to Leatt and make the neck brace mandatory for all motorcycle contestants.
The professional riders now all agree that the Leatt Neck Brace does save lives. But the Leatt Labs do not only tinker with neck braces. They have several other interesting safety equipment for motorcycle riders.
One of them is the Coolit Vest. It might not sound like a safety product, but when you are riding in hot temperatures, your body core temperature rises, losing it functions and on your way to a heat stroke. Heat strokes are difficult to detect, since you become more tired, lose vision and before you know it you black out. And when riding your motorcycle, blacking out is the last thing you want.
The Leatt Coolit Vest uses the HyperKewl material, which absorbs water, stores it, and then over time releases it. When the water is released on your skin, it evaporates, cooling you down. Therefore this product MUST be worn next to your skin, not over a t-shirt.
Before setting off on the ride into Death Valley, soak the vest for 2 minutes in water. Then while riding, the vest keeps you and your body cool & safe. If you are planning a ride in extreme hot temperatures, Leatt advise you to place the vest in your fridge for a while so it is very cool when setting out.
