Here's something I never even thought off, living in the country side amongst the cows and tractors. Parking!
Big and crowded cities like London, or other cities in the United Kingdom, are notoriously expensive in terms of real estate. Small outhouses can go for fortunes. Secondly, they don't like you parking your motorcycle on the sidewalk, or in areas not reserved for parking. That's how cities make their money, giving you parking fines, and worse, clamping you.
So after spending an hour commuting to the city, you need to spend another hour looking for a parking space for your motorcycle or car. Even car parks/garage are full. So, apparently, the only real solution you have is to rent space per month, or if you have the cash, buy a parking space.
It obviously blows my mind, having to buy real estate so that I can park, but if you start adding daily parking fees and parking fines, I guess you can pay back your investment quite quickly.
Anyway, here's a website (Rent a Parking Space) that lists all the parking spaces in the major cities in the UK. You can search them to buy, or more reasonably, to rent (they also allow you, the private citizen, to rent out space - it doesn't need to be a big commercial garage, even if it's a driveway, or a box, you can rent it).
The site makes extensive use of Google Maps, meaning you can get a good overview of where you're going to park.
Amazing the prices that people get for their parking: £200 (€250 or US$360) for a space to park your car or bike!!! That just shows you the value of real estate in the UK. Prices we pay for an appartment, you pay in the UK for a parking space!
