Several countries regularly have hard hitting, often shocking, safety campaigns, and France is one of them. The French government have started a safety campaign to educate drivers (and riders) not to use the mobile phone while driving.

They are even quoting research that using a mobile phone will increase the chance of an accident by a factor of 5, while using a hands free phone will increase it by a factor of 4 (so even hands free units are dangerous).

No Phone While Driving campaign ad

Apart from a print ad/publicity campaign (the ad states "Phoning while driving means being elsewhere than on the road"), they have also released a TV spot. I've added some translations to what is being said.

No Phone While Driving (32 seconds)

Basically, the first half of the TV spot is the driver telling someone on the phone about this nightmare (or dream) he's having while swimming. He explains that he's swimming and suddenly has no swimming trunks and is naked amongst the swimmers. He then asks "do you want to know the rest?".

Then the text that appears states "Do you want to know the rest?"....

Followed by "Here it is".

And ends with "Phoning while driving increases your chance of an accident by 5".

Another very good and hard hitting safety campaign...
