As most of you know, Europe is divided into many different countries, and therefore many different cultures and politics. And when you have different politics, you have different taxes.

This definitely applies to petrol prices. Most countries apply a special tax rate for petrol (aside from the standard sales tax), ranging from moderate to sky-high ! This makes life a bit interesting when planning to ride through different countries. Where do you tank...?

Here's a list of average gas prices (actual prices may vary, depending on the brand and location):

Country Euro/Liter Unleaded 95
Greece 0.87
Spain 0.91
Austria 0.97
Ireland 0.98
Portugal 1.08
France 1.08
Italy 1.16
Belgium 1.17
UK 1.18
Germany 1.19
Netherlands 1.26

Shows you which countries really drain the motorcyclists.....  (Thanks Tom for pointing out the error).
