There's a  new law (N° 1720) being debated in Italy for motorcycle protection. Not protection against cars or corrupt police officials, but to protect motorbikers from themselves.

Some of the laws will include the mandatory wearing of gloves and jacket for motorcycles having between 15 and 34 hp, ditto for motorcycles between 34 and 70 hp but now the jacket must have protective elements, including a back (dorsal) protector. And for motorcycle exceeding 70 hp, a two piece, or one single integral piece, of protective clothing; jacket and trousers.

Obviously, you'll need to wear a helmet, but that goes without saying. But the days of riding with just a helmet is over...

Imagine, if you've got one of today's, mostly normal, motorcycles, like a cruiser, you would have to wear an integral suit or at the very least, a 2 piece motorcycle suit. In order words, the likes of Dainese are wringing their hands in anticipation of this law. Thumb Up Smiley.

The new laws are in the Senate, and should pass any day. The good news is that more motorways will increase their speed limit to 150 kph. Which is maybe why they want bikers to wear more protection...
