India seems to be the country of opportunities, especially for motorcycle manufacturers. The market has so far been flooded by low cost, small displacement motorcycles, like the Bajaj and Hero Honda bikes, but recently big and fast motorcycles have started selling well.

The likes of Ducati, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki have done well selling their superbikes. BMW sees a good potential market for their upscale motorcycles. They are currently studying the market with as target a full launch of their product range.

The problem in India is that there is a very steep import duty. A big BMW motorcycle would cost around Rs 10 lakd (which in my estimate would be around US$24000)....

So who knows, maybe we'll be seen great TV ads for BMW motorcycles, like Bajaj has been producing.
